Vet Centers

Overview

Vet Centers operate as community-based counseling facilities distinct from traditional VA medical centers. These smaller, less institutional settings focus specifically on helping veterans and their families navigate readjustment challenges in a confidential environment.

Pro Tip: Vet Centers are separate from VA Medical Centers and focus on readjustment counseling. Smaller, less bureaucratic, combat-vet focused. If the big VA hospital feels overwhelming, try a Vet Center first.

No Barriers to Entry

You don't need VA healthcare enrollment or disability compensation to walk through the door. Vet Centers exist specifically to remove obstacles that might prevent veterans from seeking help.

Who Can Use Vet Centers

You qualify if you meet any of these criteria:

Combat/Hostile Duty: Veterans who deployed to combat zones or areas officially designated as hostile fire zones

Military Sexual Trauma: Any veteran who experienced MST during service

Emergency Response Roles: Service members who provided direct emergency medical treatment or mortuary services while on active duty

Drone Operations: UAV crew members who flew combat support missions

Vietnam Era (Grandfathered): Non-combat Vietnam-era veterans who accessed Vet Center services before January 2, 2013

Family Members: Spouses, parents, and children dealing with military-related adjustment difficulties or processing the loss of a service member
