Put transition tasks on a calendar. Compare your proposed SkillBridge or CSP dates with published rules, then confirm your plan with the people who approve it.
Free. No account needed. Optional choices stay in this tab and reset on reload. No military documents, contact details or personal narratives are collected. This is a planning comparison, not eligibility, command permission, provider acceptance or a promise of a job.
If the calculator does not become available, use the manual worksheet and all six branch references below.
Your planning timeline
These dates are targets and proposals, never completed tasks. Passed targets call for follow-up. If your transition is short notice, contact TAP as soon as possible. Calendar-year windows clamp February 29 to February 28 when needed; day offsets and spans count calendar days.

No overall clearance is given. “Within numeric reference” describes only the displayed calculation.
After building a timeline, record what each party actually told you. These are your own records for the current program and schedule, not verified decisions. A provider’s yes does not give command permission, or vice versa.
Command permission: not recorded.
Provider acceptance: not recorded.
Any planning edit clears both records and the obsolete preview. Reconfirm decisions after changing program, dates or circumstances.
A worksheet you can use without the calculator
Confirm your anticipated separation date and whether you are retiring. Ask TAP about starting counseling at least 365 days before release; retirees should start as soon as possible within the preceding 24 months.
Ask TAP to arrange Capstone normally at least 90 days before separation. Short-notice transitions start as soon as possible. Title 32 and other eligibility exceptions need the office’s review.
Read your branch policy below. Write down its version, application opening, processing lead time, training limit and how leave counts. A final 180-day window is not a universal 180-day training entitlement.
Write the first and last training days and the whole associated absence. Count both endpoints, check the relevant window and leave sequence, and reserve time for out-processing.
Confirm the provider’s approved program, schedule, cost and capacity. Then route the command application. Keep provider acceptance and command approval as two separate records. Do not depart based on this worksheet.
These summaries support planning. Ask your installation transition office to confirm what applies to your orders, program and circumstances.

CSP FAQ observed 2026-09-10
Standard CSP training: E1–E5 up to 120 days; E6–E7, W1–W3 and O1–O3 up to 90; E8–E9, W4–W5 and O4+ up to 60. Starting within the final 180 days is a separate rule.
Approval authority varies by category. Guard/Reserve active-service requirements, medical transitions and exceptions need the CSP office. Combined leave and out-processing are not resolved by this comparison.
Standard earliest starts: E1–E5 within 180 days; E6–E9 and O1–O4 within 120; O5+ within 90. Training and subsequent leave/PTDY/out-processing share that tier window. Warrant-grade mapping needs the Navy office.
Applications open 365 days before expected separation. The timeline asks for submission at least three weeks before start. SkillBridge precedes associated terminal leave/PTDY. Command approval remains separate from provider acceptance.
The Navy page describes up to 180 days for qualifying CBP/ICE and Defense Industrial Base opportunities regardless of paygrade. Confirm the actual program designation and remaining restrictions; selecting an exception here does not grant it.
MARADMIN 280/24 gives 120 days for E1–E5 and 90 for other listed grades, including combined associated absence. It requires PTAD before leave and permits applications 365 days before EAS.
Policy conflict: current NAVMC 1700.2B describes a broad 180-day ceiling and bars additional command rank restrictions. This tool does not settle which rank rule controls your case. Ask the installation SkillBridge office to reconcile both publications.
The NAVMC requires provider schedule/cost confirmation and an acceptance letter before command approval. Reserve orders cannot be extended solely for SkillBridge. Medical-transition and local authority checks remain necessary.
Standard training maximum: E1–E5/O1–O3 120 days; E6–E7/O4/W1–W3 90; E8–E9/O5/W4–W5 60. O6 requires exception consideration; higher grades are not mapped here.
Regular active training and associated leave stay within the final 180 days. Specified AGR members have different conditions: terminal leave counts toward the rank cap and they must leave their component, not simply finish orders. Other Guard/Reserve orders are not assumed covered.
Application can begin one calendar year before separation; confirm local processing deadlines. Select a provider before the military application. Exceptions and separation circumstances require individual review.
Standard training maximum: E1–E8 and O1–O4 up to 120 days; E9 and O5+ up to 90. Warrant grades are not mapped in Table 1. Approval authorities vary.
Training and combined leave stay within 180 days of separation. Applications open one calendar year before separation and are due at least 30 days before the proposed start. Select a provider before the military application; exceptions and separation circumstances still require review.
Participation falls within the final 180 days, with at most 180 days of permissive TDY. No rank tier is specified here. Active service, approved separation, TAP, ethics and command review remain required.
The July 2026 update allows command-authorized leave before SkillBridge. Leave during participation reduces training time by the same number of days. Separation cannot be extended to use leave. This tool shows gross span and remaining training days separately.
Officer and enlisted application evidence differs. Enlisted Career Intention Worksheets are due 120 days before anticipated end of enlistment (EOE); confirm your actual EOE with personnel. A separation date entered here is not assumed to be EOE. Do not upload those documents here.
Observed September 10, 2026 UTC. Source versions differ from observation dates; none verifies today’s program capacity. Review current instructions with your branch office before acting.
