Overview

The Edith Nourse Rogers Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) Scholarship assists veterans pursuing higher education in STEM fields. Due to credit requirements for certain STEM degrees, some veterans cannot complete their degrees within their GI Bill eligibility period.

Pro Tip: If you're in a STEM field and running out of GI Bill, this scholarship extends your benefits. Science nerds, your country still needs you. And wants to pay for more school.

Benefit Details

The scholarship provides veterans with:

  • Up to an additional 9 months of Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, OR
  • Up to $30,000 in tuition and fees (whichever occurs first)

Important Limitation: The scholarship CANNOT be used to obtain a graduate level degree!

Eligible Programs

Veterans may use this scholarship for:

  • Undergraduate STEM degree
  • Teaching certificate
  • Training program for health care professionals

Eligibility Requirements

Undergraduate STEM Degree

Must meet ALL criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in an approved undergraduate STEM degree requiring at least 120 semester or 180 quarter credit hours
  • Have completed at least 60 credits toward the degree
  • Have 6 months or less remaining of Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits

Teaching Certificate

Must meet ALL criteria:

  • Already obtained an approved undergraduate STEM degree
  • Accepted into or enrolled in a teaching certification program
  • Have 6 months or less remaining of Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits

Health Care Professional Training

Must meet ALL criteria:

  • Already obtained an approved undergraduate STEM degree
  • Accepted into or enrolled in a covered clinical training program for health care professionals
  • Have 6 months or less remaining of Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits

Key Restrictions

  • Cannot exceed 48 months of combined VA education benefits
  • Approved degree lists available at VA official resources

Veterans can apply through VA.gov's official application form (22-10203).
